Farmers will start receiving the advance of basic income support for sustainability from October 16

The European Commission has decided to enable EU member states, including Latvia, to pay a larger advance on basic income support for sustainability (BISS) and organic farming payment (OFP). Advance of BISS will be paid in the amount of 70%, and advance of OFP – in the amount of 85%.

The Rural Support Service (RSS) will start the first advance payments on October 16. The advance will be received by farmers whose farms have completed the verification of compliance conditions, therefore the Ministry of Agriculture and the RSS invites farmers to verify in the electronic application system whether all the necessary additional information has been submitted to the Rural Support Service.

This year, the BISS preliminary support rate will be approximately 88 euros/ha, of which 70% will be paid in advance payment, i.e. approximately 61 euros/ha.

On the other hand, in regions with special conditions, i.e. regions in which the duration of the vegetation period is shorter than 195 days and the quality assessment of agricultural land is less than 38 points, or which has borders with countries that are not EU members, the preliminary support rate of BISS will be approximately 98 euros/ha, from which will cost approximately 68 euros/ha in advance payment.

For organic farms, the OFP rate this year is from 43 to 518 euros/ha, depending on the crops grown.
