Increased amount of marked diesel fuel for producing farmers

The Latvian government has approved amendments made by the Ministry of Agriculture to the regulations on the reduced excise tax rate for marked diesel fuel for farmers, increasing the amount of marked diesel fuel depending on the cultivated crop. This measure has been taken to ensure that Latvian farmers do not lose competitiveness in the unified EU agricultural products market.

The amendments to the regulations, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with farmers, increase the amount of marked diesel fuel available to farmers based on the type of cultivated crop, raising the designated number of liters as follows:

  • For fruit growing: from 130 to 180 liters per hectare
  • For vegetable growing: from 130 to 290 liters per hectare
  • For conventional grasslands: from 130 to 180 liters per hectare
  • For organic grasslands: from 130 to 145 liters per hectare
  • For organic grasslands where the farmer meets the income and livestock density requirements set for conventional areas: from 130 to 180 liters per hectare

At the same time, the minimum income criteria have been raised:

  • For conventional farms: from EUR 350 to EUR 450 per hectare
  • For organic farms: from EUR 210 to EUR 270 per hectare

These changes were necessary to ensure a fiscally neutral impact on the state budget.

Taking into account the implemented changes, the application deadline for receiving marked diesel fuel has been extended until June 10, 2025.
